Panini Prestige 2009/10 NBA Box Review

After opening a fair few packs of the 2009/10 Panini Prestige I decided that I liked the look of the cards but not so much the look of the thick white cardboard that I was receiving a generous amount of from Panini and decided to fork out for a box to catch a look at a few inserts.

This product has a very big carrot in the form of the first official signatures of the new rookie class.  Taken on draft day by Panini and signed on card - these will probably be quite collectable in years to come.

Alas I didn't hit any of these autographs, although I did manage a couple so i cant complain.

But lets start with the base cards and the full bleed design is very nice if you ask me, the players details and team don't hog the card and the rookie tag doesn't intrude too much.  There are multiple cards of some of the rookies including the Griffen (pictured) and I was lucky enough to pull both.  The next class of insert appears to be the numbered and foil Prestigous Pros which look pretty average, a design in fact that litters most donruss product, but it was still only numbered to 100 and I got Yao ming.

I pulled two memorabilia cards from the box and they both are variations of the 'Prestigious' inserts just with a slab of single colour material on the right hand side.  The only redeeming feature these cards have is that they are numbered to 50 and I hit a Brandon Roy (Prestigious Pros) and a B.J.Mullins (Prestigious Picks).

Which brings us back to the autographs.  I got a DeJaun Blair stickered auto on his rookie card numbered to 699 which is sort of par for the course although I hear Panini is inserting a lot more 'hard signed' autos in their product than we have seen in recent years.  The best hit in the box was a Toney Douglas hard signed autograph on a manufactured path of his Florida State patch numbered to 93.  These cards don't feature the player at all which is a bit of a let down.

In summary I was very disappointed with my box, but I have seen some nice cards and I do believe the general set is well worth collecting - which would yield some nice inserts over time.  The Draft day signatures would be a lovely addition to any rookie collection and the insert sets are at least low numbered which bodes well down the track.

6.5 Cherries out of 10
