09/10 Panini Threads Box Break
Written by Grayson White Wednesday, 06 January 2010 10:00
Many trading card sets have themes. Some are easy to figure out, some make no sense at all, but when you pick up 2009 Panini Threads, it's pretty obvious what you are going to expect -- Memorabilia! Each box contains 4 memorabilia or autos per box and that box will cost you just $114.95 at Cherry Collectables HERE. You'll find 24 packs, each with 5 cards. They are full of today's greats, stars of yesterday and there's even an awesome tribute to the legends of the ABA!The following box was reviewed by Card Corner Club.

Our box provided 98 of the 100 card base set, with five duplicates and the promised inserts. The base set is not as flamboyant as the foil finished Elite cards, but the Threads design is solid and simple keeping the focus on the awesome player photos. Where this set really dazzles are the insert collections. To date this is my favorite Panini release. The ABA Legends cards have a retro design with a shiny gloss finish. Easily these are my personal favorite regular insert cards of the year.
Right behind them on my favorites list are the Team Threads Home and Away sets. These cards are die-cut into the shape of an NBA jersey and feature 50 top players. There are no photos they are simply textured paper replicas of these players jerseys and they are very cool. At first I thought there should be a small photo on the back, but then changed my mind. What I'd really like to see them do with this series is continue it in other 2009-10 products to expand upon the theme. I would collect an entire 200-300 card set of these, perhaps they could build a brand around it. Wouldn't it be ironic to have a card in the shape of a jersey contains a swatch of jersey or an autograph? I'd buy it, how about you? Without gushing, I can honestly say I haven't been this impressed with a basic insert set in a very long time.
Now, onto the gear. The set is called Threads after all, and the inserts with memorabilia are even more impressive than the basic ones. Rookie Class cards feature autographs upon manufactured jersey letters and they are awesome. There are also basic jersey swatches in other insert sets, but there is nothing more impressive and pulling one of these oversized swatches.

Threads like I said is my favorite NBA release from Panini so far. Full of gear, graphs and cool inserts that fit right into the theme seamlessly, it seemed as if every pack contained a surprise of some sort. On average there should be a signed letter RC in every box, and I was lucky enough to find two. This year's class is showing tremedous and immediate potential. With Tyreke Evans, Brandon Jennings and Jonny Flynn all making an impact and leading the way, Panini couldn't have picked a better year to get in the game. Thanks to them for sending these out to me and be on the lookout for their next offering -- Panini Limited in early January.
