Donruss (Panini) 2009 Certified NFL Review
Written by Grayson White Friday, 06 November 2009 07:19
A few people picked this box up for a squizz at our opening day launch much to my dismay! You see this was the box I had my eye on and as you can probably tell by now, I got what I wanted!
Donruss, or Panini as we now know it, have their eggs in the Michael Crabtree basket with this product and I'm not sure how that is going to work out for them as he hasn't been too impressive for mine thus far, but that is a diffeent story.
The box is pretty cool, a small square almost like a block of energon, with 10 premium packs stuffed into it. There is 4 hits up for grabs, and plenty of parrarels of each, but essentially you get about 8 numbered cards in a box.
The base cards are just one almost full bleed profile of the player with a shiny silver finish. They aren't the prettiest base cards that I have seen, but they aren't trash either. There might be a little too much going on with the framing art, but this looks to have been included for the parrarels to stand out.
The most common insert is the 'Certified Potential', which comes in a range of parrarels numbered according to their colour. The best I pulled was a Mohamed Massaquoi blue, numbered to 50. These inserts are ugly, no other word for it. There is a huge amount of space set aside for a tiny little helmet, rubbish.

My next hit was a Freshman Fabric Aaron Curry Autograph numbered to 249. This was probably meant to be my best hit but the stick auto on the front looks pretty average and it is just a single colour patch. The card design is fine though, although certainly could be improved.
Then I pulled a very nice looking DeAngelo Williams authentic game-worn prime jersey patch, parrarel by the looks of things. It is numbered to 50 and is a 3 colour patch. Not too sure what the odds are of these inserts but I'm happy with it, despite not being a Panthers fan.

The next hit was an extremely cool looking Fabric Of The Game authentic game-worn jersey card of Steven Jackson. This is a 3 colour patch numbered to 10 and is a very nice insert, easily the best designed insert I pulled. That said Steven Jackson is not a fave player of mine.
Last and definitely best hit of my box was an Immortals Jerry Rice game-worn patch. Once again the design is far off the standard base card but this is Jerry and numbered to 50, so who cares. It's the blue version which dictates the numbering and a single colour patch, but I was very happy with it.

Overall the box is affordable for the quality of inserts you can pull and the premium nature of all of the cards, however it will not be everyones cup of tea so check out the box break vid below and make up your own mind. Personally I will be breaking at least one more box of this as I was impressed with some of the patchs.
