Patrick James "Pat" Riley (born March 20, 1945) is Cherry's Throwback Thursday player of the week!

Widely regarded as one of the greatest NBA coaches of all time, Riley has served as the head coach of five championship teams. He grew up in Rome, New York and played basketball and football and was in fact drafted by both the San Diego Rockets and the Dallas Cowboys - lucky for us he chose basketball.

Riley had a successful playing career mostly with the Lakers and they won the championship in 1972.

However it has been as a coach that Riley has had an enormous impact on professional basketball.

A five time NBA championship winner as a coach (4 with the Lakers and once with the Heat) Riley was named NBA Coach of the Year three times. He was head coach of the NBA All-Star Game team nine times: eight times with the Western Conference team and once with the Eastern team. In 1996 he was named one of the 10 Greatest Coaches in the NBA history.

All this PLUS his own video game for the Mega Drive back in the day;

And he looks like Gordon Gecko;

See you next week for Throwback Thursday!
