Launch Date:
23/07/2021
This eagerly awaited crossover, Dungeons & Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, will not leave players of either game disappointed. It will be the 88th Magic: The Gathering expansion and will replace the core set of the 2021-2022 standard rotation too.
A campaign setting for the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy RPG, the Forgotten Realms (or commonly called “The Realms” amongst players and game designers), the planet Toril is shared by humans, goblins, orcs, dwarves, elves and other characters, and is meant to represent pre-industrial Earth of the 13th and 14th centuries.
Amongst many firsts, the basic lands of this seat will feature flavor texts, presented by a Dungeon Master and structured as descriptions. Forgotten Realms will also introduce double-sided Dungeon cards, the Hafling creature type, and provide an applauded reintroduction of Ranger and an appearance of Citizen for the first time as a black-bordered creature type.
The Adventures in the Forgotten Realms crossover is amongst the most ambitious card sets ever announced for MTG, with strong and varied featured products, along with new set boosters, collector boosters, and themed boosters (one for each color). Players can also expect four new Commander decks - Aura of Courage, Dungeons of Death, Draconic Rage and Planar Portal.
The first set of previews has fans talking, with a satisfying selection of ironic goofs that really enhance the entertainment value of the game - including the Portable Hole artifact, which allows players to drop an extra-dimensional pocket of space onto any flat surface, as well as a ninth-level spell Power Word Kill, which causes instant death…!
Fans of the classic styles won’t find much to complain about either, as the set will feature alternate frames and art that conjure up the same style as the modern 5th edition Dungeons & Dragons books.
