Yao Ming

During his peak years, Yao was widely regarded as one of the best centres in the league. Talent-wise, he was often compared to legends like Patrick Ewing and David Robinson, and he was one of the few players physically capable of going toe-to-toe with Shaquille O’Neal during the era when teams were specifically building rosters to slow down Shaq.

Injuries unfortunately interrupted Yao’s prime just as he was approaching true superstar status. At his absolute peak, he was entering MVP conversations before those injuries limited his career. Even today, there has never been another player quite like Yao Ming.

Yao also remains one of the most globally influential players in NBA history, particularly across Asia, where he helped spark a massive basketball fanbase. Because of this, Yao Ming basketball cards continue to see strong demand from collectors around the world.

The flagship Yao Ming rookie card is #185 from 2002 Topps. While it is not the rarest rookie card, high-grade PSA examples are surprisingly difficult to find, making them especially desirable for serious collectors.
