'Is that his true rookie?' It's a question lots of new collectors (and some older ones) want to know the answer to; usually, a player's true rookie card is the card from a set known for it's base set (e.g. Prizm, Select, Optic) and which there is the most volume of.

After that card from the numbered set is out there, the market decides which one is the most valuable. What things affect that value? Factors like the set's history with collectors, design of the card and the photography of the athlete.

For example, Zion's base Prizm rookie features him in a great slam pose while the Rated Rookie has an odd pose where Zion is "listening" to the ball or something? The Prizm is more sought after and fetches a bigger price as a result;

Inserts are not generally considered a true rookie so a Dressed To Impress or a Fledgling Impressionist, although a card with a rookie on it, is not a true rookie.
